The Province is investing $100,000 in the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada, BC Golf Swing, to help welcome top golfers and fans from around the globe to BC. This fantastic investment in golfing in our province was announced by Suzanne Anton, MLA for Vancouver-Fraserview, on behalf of Shirley Bond, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour, at a press conference on Friday March 24, 2017.
The BC Golf Swing, part of the Mackenzie Tour – PGA TOUR Canada’s tournament series, will bring 156 players to compete in three tournament locations in British Columbia. In turn, these three tournaments will bring in fans, tour officials and sponsors and are expected to generate $8 million of economic activity in BC. The three tour stops are:
- Vancouver – Freedom 55 Financial Open at Point Grey Golf and Country Club – May 29-June 4
- Victoria – Bayview Place DC Payments Open at Uplands Golf Club – June 5-11
- Kelowna – GolfBC Championship at Gallagher’s Canyon Golf and Country Club – June 12-18
“These tournaments in Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna will bring top international golfers and visitors to three of our province’s most iconic golf courses. Investing in tournaments like this creates tremendous economic impact for these communities and helps to create jobs in our diverse tourism sector,” said Suzanne Anton, Minister of Justice and MLA for Vancouver-Fraserview, of the investment.
We are thrilled by the news of this investment and would like to thank the Province of British Columbia for their continued support of golf in our province. As we’ve said before, sport is well-known to drive tourism both in BC and beyond, and golf continues to be a winning driver.
